The pollinating performance of the pollen-less and pollen bearing varieties were compared in the poor and the good cropping orchards. The pistils from the flowers were stained with waterblue-K_3PO_4 and the amounts of germinated pollens on the stigma were observed with fluorecent microscope. The frequencies of (% of pollination) pollinated flowers of the pollen-less varieties were less than 10% in the poor cropping orchards, but 50 to 90% in the good cropping orchard. The pollen-bearing varieties had higher percent of pollination than had the pollen-less ones in both orchards. The quantities of pollinated pollens on the stigma, however, was larger in the high yielding than the low yielding orchards. These results suggest that poor fruiting is caused by low % of pollination in the pollen-less varieties. In the pollen-bearing varieties poor fruiting was associated with less amount of pollen on the stigma.
