This study explores Yan Xiu's pioneering efforts in music education of Tianjin in the late Qing Dynasty. Inspired by Meiji era principles from Japan, Yan introduced music education into various educational institutions, emphasizing its role in fostering national patriotism. His initiatives laid the foundation for music education in Tianjin schools. Additionally, his influence extended to the establishment of the Zhili Provincial Gymnastics and Music Propagation Institute(直隷省体操音楽伝習所).
