The purpose of the present study is to elucidate the biological characteristics of tumor cells from the viewpoint of phagocytosis. The author has discovered a marked phagocytosis of some kind of newly synthetized Benzidine Yellow series pigment by Ehrlich ascites tumor cells under the use of some specific surfectant. Pigment solution was prepared by systematically combining 5 kinds of Benzidine Yellow series pigment with delicate difference in chemical structure with 6 kinds of surfectant as the solvent. States of phagocytosis by Ehrlich ascites tumor, Yoshida sarcoma, and AH-130 ascitic hepatoma were compared and differences were found among them. Even the same kind of tumor cells exhibit different phagocytotic ability through minor difference in chemical structure. Differece in solvent also gave variations in phagocytotic ability.
