本稿は高校生による人文・社会科学系の課題研究への指導における、インタビューや現地調査等にもとづく質的研究の教育的意義と課題を論じる。研究手法が一定程度共有されている自然科学系の課題研究や量的研究とは異なり、人文・社会科学系の課題研究はその方法論が十分に確立されていない。しかし人文・社会科学系における質的研究は、生徒が研究過程で自身の問題意識を再構築する「捉え直し」が起こりやすい点、また社会問題を主体的に捉えて自己の在り方生き方を考える契機となる点で、教育的な意義が大きい。定型化されていない質的研究の分析方法には課題があるが、「厚い記述」や質的・量的手法を組み合わせた混合研究によって研究の質を高める可能性がある。
This paper discusses the educational significance and challenges of qualitative research based on interviews and field research in guiding high school students’ inquiry-based learning in the humanities and social sciences. Unlike inquirybased learning in the natural sciences and quantitative research where research methods are shared to a certain extent, the methodology for inquiry-based learning in the humanities and social sciences has not been fully established. However, qualitative research in the humanities and social sciences holds educational significance in that students are likely to reconstruct their own awareness of issues in the research process, and it is also an opportunity for them to take a proactive view of social issues and think about their own identity and way of life. While there are challenges in analyzing qualitative research due to the lack of standardized methods, there is potential to improve the quality of research through “thick description” and mixed research combining qualitative and quantitative methods.
