In this report, it was attempted to make clear the significance of the therapyst's countertransferance in the psychoanlytic oriented psychotherapy of a female patient, who suffered from hysterical conversionsymptoms. She was thirty-five years old at her first visit to our hospital. In the initial stage of psychotherapy she percieved mainly only the negative feelings to her father, although she expressed the positive feelings toward him. The therapist could not point out her positive feelings to him, because of the countertransferance. Then she showed fear in the mothertransferance with the acting-out. It seemed that the therapist could hardly understand her fear because of the counter projective-iden¬tification. Ultimately she percieved that she had both negative and positive feelings to her father and said finally about her negative feelings to her mother. Perhaps the therapist could not enough interpret her feelings better because of the strong resistance in perceiving the negative feelings to the therapist's own mother. In this psychotherapy, the problem of her ambivalent feelings to her mother remained unsolved, but she percieved her ambivalent feelings to her father and she came to accept her own changs which had occurred after her mother's death. Thus the symptoms disappeared and the treatment has been completed.
