In the neurosurgical field, few works appeared on the developmental course of pediatric patients. Therefore, we evaluated the pediatric patients on their developmental state by "Tsumori's diagnostic evaluating method for children". The materials were 165 cases in total: the hydrocephalus cases by various disturbances: 76, the spina bifida without ventricular enlargement: 20, and others: 69. The age span was from two months to 11 years and 2 months. Analyses were made on the passing rates at each age bracket and on the mean developmental score. The results are as follows: 1 ) five items analyzed in the "Tsumori's questionnaire" could be clearly separated into two categories: one with a high passing rate over 80 % and the other with a low one below 30%; 2 ) the spina bifida group showed ordinary development for their age, while the hydrocephalic group or the others tended to be slow in their deve¬lopment after approximately 24 months; 3 ) in spina bifida group of age span from 2 to 41 months, a negative correlation (r = ; 0.62) was significant (P<0.05) between the deve-lopmental quotinent (DQ) and their calendar age.
