Correlation between the Quantitative Change of Stress and the Trait of Character in the Fixed Supine Posture

The purpose of this study was to analyze the mental and physical stresses of 70 healthy nurse students who participated in taking the fixed supine posture for 8 hours. They were divided into two groups: one is a group of 35 students who were allowed to speak during the test, and the other is a group of 35 students who were not allowed to speak. Students in both groups were told to take the fixed supine posture for 8 hours and their stresses were checked by an amended TMI and Stress Check B. The results obtained from the test were com¬pared with those of YG test: among A, C, and D types belonging to "stable" type, the stress in¬creased gradually from just before the start till 480 minutes later, but in B type belonging to "unstable" type, the stress increased suddenly from 210 minutes after the start till 450 minutes later. The stresses in the speaking-permitted group (C type) were significantly higher than those in the speaking-prohibited group (C type) after 480 minutes in the relation between YG test and regulation of speaking. This suggests that the nurse students of C type hardly had any stress by the negative tendency of their characters. Between the two groups after the start till 480 minutes later, the stress in B type was the least in the speaking-permitted group, while the stress in B type was the greatest in the speaking-prohibited group. This suggests that the nurse students of B type had some difficulty in the adaptation to their surroundings.
