The patient was a 60-year-old male. He underwent the operation of hepatic cancer with cirrhosis. Later, he became irritated from the fear of death and his physical condition took a turn for the worse. He wandered around the neighborhood; the other patients were troubled. Therefore, his doctor diagnosed him as hepatic encephalopathy and started the treatment of drip infusion of Aminolevan-R, but he became worse emotionally. The doctor asked a psychiatrist for advice and the psychiatrist administered sedatives. But the results of clinical examinations such as blood sugar value, respiratory function and electroencephalogram were normal. Consequently, the author suspected why he was so irritable and showed such strange behaviors. He asked the author for the interview and the author listened attentively to his complaints. Considering that he accepted himself through the assistance of the author, his physical condition recorvered to some extent and he regained his composure. He came to be very positive and independent. From these results, the author considers that it is very important to care the patients psychologically, even if the symptoms seem to be somatic.
