Sensory Function of Unaffected Hands in Stroke Patients

The Sensory functin of unaffected hands of 61 left hemiparetic patients (34 males and 27 females) was studied. All patients had suffered from a stroke within 3 years prior to the test. Control subjects were 51 normal adults (22 males and 29 females). The unaffected hands of these left hemiparetic patients were found to have lower sensory function than the comparable hands in the control group of normal subjects. Male patients had lower sonsory function than female patients. The unaffected hands of male right hemiparetic patients were also found to have lower sensory function than in the case of the conrol sobjects. But female right hemiparetic patients did not have lower sensory funcion.
