A Study of Nursing Care on the Patient of Hypopituitarism with Adrenocortical Steroid Administrations

A 73-year-old male of hypopituitarism caused by the pituitary tumor was treated by the administration with adrenocortical steroids. By the careful observation, the following conclusions were suggested. (1) After starting the steroid administration, daily-variations of his systolic blood pressure increased from 100 to 148, and his mental and physical activities also showed some variations within 24 hours. (2) The steroid must be administered, according to the patient's variation of blood pressure, mental and physical activities. And nurses must offer these variable clinical informations in detail to doctors. (3) After the opera¬tion, the steroid administration was stopped. Although the patient ate daily meals provided by the hospital completely, he always complained about his malaise. When a candy was given to him, malaise disappeared. Therefore, an oral supply of sugar sometimes might be of great help to the patient with hormonal disturbance after the surgery of the pituitary body.
