"Tristan et Isolde" by Gottefied von Strasbourg is translation of the Tristan tale in the 12th century written in French. In this tale, the sea and the voyage are an important element which determines the fate of characters. Therefore, in order to understand a work, it is necessary to get to know the view about the author's sea and ship. The 13th century was the early Hanseatic merchant's time from the 12th century when Gottefied was useful. The view over a voyage and the sea of the Hanseatic age is reflected in the work. It is an aim of this paper to get to know what kind of thing it was.
