Language education has always included the instruction of ethical or moral values. With the concept of "plurilingualism as a value" the EU suggested a new approach，which should be compatible to new social environments produced by the increase of pluralism in society. This paper uses the concept of "plurilingualism as a value" to discuss a model of communication under the conditions of an unrestricted social pluralism and points out that this model demands a new set of ethical values. This set of values requires coping with truths which are incompatible and even desiring that truths should exist in conflict. Analysis shows that this kind of ethical approach differs to the moral approach used in traditional language education to instruct appropriate behavior in intercultural situations. By comparing the models of communication usually presupposed by traditional language education to the model suggested in this paper，I also try to discuss the possibilities and advantages of introducing the concept of “plurilingualism as a value" into language education at schools and academic institutions.
