本論文は、『浄土学研究』第12 輯（韓国浄土学会、2009）に掲載された論文「葬事文化 變化에 따른 自然葬 硏究」の全訳である。著者の安佑煥は、韓国・乙支大学校葬礼指導学科の元教授である。 近年、とりわけ1990 年代以降の韓国におけるいわゆる「葬事文化」の変容には目を見張るものがあり、「儒教や風水思想に基づく伝統的特徴」を保持している、といったステレオタイプは既に通用し難い状況となっている。本論文は、その導入が韓国でしばしば議論されている「自然葬」をキーワードにして、社会環境や法制度・政策的な背景から韓国における「葬事文化」の変容を読み解いたものであり、現代韓国の「葬事文化」研究における主要論点を広くカバーする貴重な研究成果である。
The green burial including scattering has been a custom disposing the dead of infancy, the sick and have-not-descendants. With the shift from agricultural society to the information age, the funeral culture has been changed rapidly from interment to cremation. Also, past funeral rituals focused filial piety, but now, efficiency and sanitation are more important in modern funerals. Cremation rates rise rapidly in U.S.A. and Europe, the green burial called natural disposal is replacing interment. Korea legislated green burial in July, 2008. Korean law designates green burial as burying cremation ashes under trees, grasses or besides them. But, it excludes traditional scattering, does not present lots of green burial model. I will review the meanings and intentions of the green burial, analyze issues, and then I will try to bring up new directions for activating green burial
