CSS (Critical Security Studies) has played a crucial role to deepen or deconstruct the concept of security by scrutinizing the problems with the hegemonic concept of national security and interrogating the question of emancipation such as ‘for whom, whose security?’ while bringing in the gender, post-colonial and post-structural perspectives toward the marginalized people and introducing the concept of ‘critical’ human security. However as the concept of human security implies, the problematizing framework for peace and security is always based upon the anthropocentric perspective. Even among the human beings, there are incessant violence, oppression, exploitation, discrimination and structural inequality. We cannot afford to attend the suffering of animals as a top prioritized issue. However if the dichotomous thinking justifying disarticulation between man and animal is closely related to racism and genocide among the human beings, we cannot continue to ignore the problem of anthropocentrism or speciesism as well as “the animal question”. The aim of this paper is to scrutinize political/ethical implication of “the animal turn” and the increasing influence of Critical Animal Studies in CSS.
