From 1998 to 2003, the people of the Solomon Islands experienced a big conflict called Ethnic Tension or Guadalcanal Crisis. The violence began in late 1998 when a militia group from Guadalcanal began attacking people from the nearby island of Malaita who had settled in the north part of Guadalcanal. This paper focuses on the claims of the Guadalcanal-based Isatabu Freedom Movement （IFM） and considers their logic that justifies the relationship with their land. In previous studies, it has been pointed out that IFM is strongly influenced by kastom-oriented Moro movement. Kastom is a word from Solomon Islands Pidgin, which means traditional culture. Certainly, IFM is thought to be influenced by the movement. This is because the name Isatabu Freedom Movement shows sympathy for Moro movement, and some of their participants are motivated and inspired by it. However, the IFM official newsletter Isatabu Tavuri shows that they do not necessarily emphasize their unique kastom and traditional culture. Rather, in this newsletter, by using the universal and natural expression about the relationship with land, they insist on the importance of land for the marginalized people in the world, including themselves.
