This paper analyzed the conversion to Islam by Chinese residents (Han Chinese) in Hong Kong since 1997, Hong Kong was returned to China this year. People who convert to Islam have different motives, this paper extracts elements called "social characters" that induce such conversion and examines them. In short, the Islamic conversion is a reflection of the uneasiness of some Hong Kong citizens, especially younger generation during a period where intense social and political change took place. Facing such uneasiness and lostness, some chose to fight against the harsh reality of a broken‘One Country Two System', some chose to accept it, some, of course, chose to find an escape. Most of the Chinese residents who converted to Islam fall into this category, and it is undeniable that the purpose of many people's conversion is to find a safe space for themselves. The Islamic community in Hong Kong created a space that accepts people who need an escape. It has also become an association that does not restrict individuality and personal freedom; it is also distanced itself from the mainstream Chinese community. Therefore, it became this sacred and independent space that always keeps a distance from the outside world.
