「新品のペットボトル」と「ペットボトルの新品」のように、連体修飾構造の修飾部と被修飾部は反転できる場合がある。本論文では、「N1のN2」と「N2のN1」の両方が容認可能となるためには、文脈によって変化するN1とN2の指示対象の際立ちが拮抗することが必要条件となることを示した。さらに、デフォールト的な語順が反転することによって生じるレトリックとしての効果を記述した。

日本語の連体修飾では, 修飾部に名詞を含む表現の一部において, 修飾部と被修飾部の名詞を反転しても両方の表現が容認可能となる現象が存在する。本稿では, 従来の研究においてほとんど指摘されていないこの種の反転現象に着目し, 「N1のN2」と「N2のN1」の両方が容認可能となるための文法的条件に関する事例分析を行った。具体的には, N1とN2の認知的際立ちの拮抗と, 換喩関係の慣習性が反転可能性に関わるパラメータとなることを示し, 句レベル又は文レベルの文脈を補うことによって, 単独では反転が不可能であった表現が反転可能となる場合があることを示した。また, 文法的にはやや逸脱的であるものの, 修辞的には容認される反転現象が存在することを指摘し, 修辞的な文脈の性質と,修辞的効果に関する考察を行った。Despite the vast amount of research on the modification structure in Japanese linguistics, little is known about the alternation between the modifier and the modified element, called hypallage in rhetoric. The main purpose of this paper is to show the grammatical conditions allowing for hypallage between the modifier and the modified nouns from the viewpoint of cognitive linguistics. This study suggests that generally the most important parameter in hypallage is cognitive salience. Hypallage is categorized into context free and context dependent types. My analysis shows that the context dependent type of hypallage often yields some kind of rhetorical effect, which is based on the semantic structure of the alternation.
