軟骨下骨組織の虚血により離断性骨軟骨炎と類似の所見が惹起されると推測して実験的研究を行った。56羽の100-150日令のニワトリの大腿骨内側顆部上方から金属筒を関節面に挿入した。この際軟骨には直接損傷を加えずその下層の骨組織に血流遮断部位を作成した。経時的に肉眼的,病理組織学的.X線学的観察を行ったととろ,血流遮断後早期に骨壊死が生じその表面の軟骨層は肥大した。軟骨部には変性像が認められる一方,これをとりまくように増生した線維組織が進入発達し、6～9週目には,軟骨塊を分画し不安定な遊離状態となった。その後軟骨塊が脱落してゆくのが観察された。これらの所見は肉眼的にも病理組織学的にもヒトの離断性骨軟骨炎と多くの類似点があった。
We attempted to make an experimental model of Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) in animal to examine the pathogenesis of this disease. Ischemia was produced in the medial condyle of the chicken knee by inserting the metal cylinder (3mm). Much attention was paid not to damage articular cartilage. 56 chicken was used in this experiment. one to fourtyeight weeks after surgery, these animals were sacsified and examined radiologically and pathologically. By two to three weeks, the bone within the cylinder was obserbed to be died. Four to five weeks after, thickening of the cartilage was noted, and fibrous tissue was found to invade between normal and thickend cartilage. About six to twelve weeks after, pathological regions were completely surrounded by fibrous tissue and appeared unstable. Finally this mass of cartilage and dead bone was detouched from femoral condyle, and become a loose body in the ioint. This sequence of pathological changes appeared to be simillar to the human OCD. We suggested ischemia of subchondral region might be an important factor in the pathogenesis of OCD.
