The experimental study on the energy metabolism of the liverin acute pancreatitis

The energy metabolism of the liver in acute pancreatitis was investigated in rats, mainly from the point of view of the mitochondrial function. ATP, ADP, AMP and total adenine nucleotides levels in the liver tissues in the acute pancreatitis were respectively lo,iver than those in the control. Energy charge, however, was almost the same as in the control. The examination of mitochondrial function revealed that the content of cytochrome c+c_1 was reduced, but, on the other, hand, the activities of both NADH-cyt. c reductase and succinate-cyt. c reductase were accelerated. The activities of the glycolytic enzymes in the liver tissue in acute pancreatitis were almost the same as in the control. Separately, similar results were obtained in the experiments with intravenous injection of pancreatic homogenate. These findings suggested that the pancreatic enzymes which had entered the bloodstream in acute pancreatitis should cause a disturbance of the energy metabolism of the liver resulted from a reduction of cytochrome c+c_1 and adenine nucleotides in the liver.
