抄録（自由利用可）	For an oriented diagram of a knot, the minimum number of crossing changes required to convert the diagram into a descending diagram is said to be the warping degree. The minimum number of warping degrees of all diagrams of a knot is said to be the ascending number of the knot. In this paper, we study the relation between the ascending number and the warping degree. We determine the ascending number of certain families of knots. We prove that the ascending number equals the half of the crossing number minus one if and only if a knot is the (2, p)-torus knot. We examine the determinations of the ascending numbers of prime knots up to ten crossings.
